I am moving to Spain in 2 months - and unfortunately one of the places I had in mind was in the district of Arboleas, Almeria. There seems to be a lot going on there with vicious greedy mayors or something to that effect..Can anyone tell me what exactly it is, and if its only the newer houses that are affected by this, or do I risk problems buying an old village house thats been “reformed” as they call it.
I know everyone will say why Arboleas when you could have chosen anywhere in Spain its just that you seem to get a lot more for your hard earned cash there…probaly because of all the difficulties. Other places I have been looking at are Denia, Javea, Pedreguer, Moraira and perhaps down Mazarron way..Any thoughts?? Would be very thankful for any comments about this, advice, thoughts on the various areas etc.

Thanks for that! had a read of both, and it looks like there’s a lot going on - such a pity because its a nice area, and things put you off, don’t they..Trouble is with forums you always seem to get the gripes and never the positive side of things. There must be a good few expats living there that are happy too!! Maybe I should skip the area..
Anyone else got first hand experience? Did look at manilva but there’s nothing there in the way of detatched that i can afford!!

Have you thought also about movig inland a little, i live about three quaters of an hour from Arboleas, towards Baza, plenty of nice property here, free tapas still in the bars and still only 1 euro a beer/wine. Cheaper cost of living all round and a nice area in the mountains.

That sounds like very good advice, Nizzo! And use an out of town lawyer best I suppose.. Just had bad news today that my buyer’s buyer here didn’t get his finance so its going to take another month or so now - so disappointed, but its very difficult for young people to get a loan. Not their fault..I’m gutted as I was ready for the move now! Still moving of course, will just take longer thats all! I think any further inland from Arboleas might just be too far in for me though..But I will certainly have a look at Baza
