Greetings,
I currently have a valid NIE card and a VISA which I obtained because I came to Spain for work. My contract, and my NIE both finish at the end of August. I am planning on living in Spain until the end of September, as my company has told me that I am allowed to stay for 90 days AFTER the expariation of the NIE…I assume that basically what happens is that my VISA just becomes a tourist visa good for 90 days? Am I correct? The reason I ask is that I am currently looking for other jobs and it is highly likely that in early September I will fly back to the US for some interviews and then fly back to Spain to finish up my stay here, and I do not want to run in to Visa issues. I have talk to the US embassy here, but they were of no help as my issues concern Spanish visas. I have tried to call the Spanish consulate ( in the US)  many many many times, but they NEVER answer the phone. Any advice from someone who known what they are talking about (i.e. current visa laws and what not) is greatly appreciated…

jspector,
you have to apply for the renewal of the residence card BEFORE it expires. the renewal application extends the validity of the work/resident permit. get all the requirements, haven’t you received a renewal form?

could you write down all that is written on the back except the ones referring to your identity such as name and number.

Hi,
I did not begin to renew it because I was given the residency card on the condition that I was working…however now my contract is finished and my employer told me they were not going to file the renewal paperwork because it takes quite some time…in any case..I don’t really want to renew my residence card, I only want to stay for 1 month after it expires…that is my real issue…when it expires does it just become the case that I am now here on a 90 day tourist visa ?
