Dear Forumers!!!

I currently live in Miami but on last May I was in Marbella and started the process in buying a House in which i hope i could live there indefinetely with residencia. I have been trying to get bits on information on stuff i have to due before my trip in August to Marbella. Trying to contact the Consulate in Miami for Information is a disaster they do not have anyone on the phone to help you you must apply for a appointment and then ask any questions i have. I need to know the following as an american i am allowed to be in Spain 90 days without Visa. I want to know if i have to apply for Residencia no lucrativa in Spain or in Miami i want to avoid coming back to the U.S. I have heard that you could get a Visa Extention for 6 months but i need to know if i could due this in Spain or have to do it here. How long does a residencia no lucrativa takes?????? I Also know that in order to open a Bank account i need a NIE does this take long? can i do it in Spain or have to do it here. I also want to purchase a car do i only need a NIE or i need a Residencia to buy a car???????? How long could i used my State of Florida License in Spain? Do i have to take a Driving test to get a Spanish license or only go to la Comisaria a exchange it for a Spanish License. I know there allot of questions but i like to be inform and in control i do not want to make return trips veru often..

Sincerely

Jose Perez

I am in a similar situation as you. Except I have not bought a house yet. I was in Marbella for 3 months, but am now back in Canada.

The first thing is that you HAVE TO apply for your residencia in Miami before you leave. You cannot apply for it in Spain. The Visa Extension for 6 months is impossible in Marbella. I tried it, they turned me down. You only get it if it is a real emergency.

I would suggest you find a lawyer to process your residencia. I am in the process of looking for one now.
