😊 Hello, I was wondering if any one could give me any advise on schooling in the Torrevieja area in spain? We have 2 children, aged 5 and 2, with the eldest just completed her Reception year in a local primary school in the UK.

Our house is currently up for sale and we are hoping to make the move to Spain before the end of the year (Fingers crossed!). We are looking to move to the South of Torrvieja and considering the schooling options - if anyone could recommend some school and give me the benfit of your experience in relocating with young children it would be appreciated!

In addition - does any one know of any long term letting agents in that area as we may look to rent before buying.

Buy the way Im Terri, Iv got 2 boys, 8 & 1 and we’re moving to Spain in the next few weeks hopefully when Iv had baby no. 3 !!  We’ve just accepted an offer on our property in the UK so as soon as its all gone through we’ll be off, cant wait.

I too am planning to move end this year and have been doing lOADS research but I seem to be getting more and more confused!
I was looking at Costa Calida just outside Murcia. I have 2 kids (3 +11) and still no idea whether to be hard and go for spanish schooling or be a softy and fork out (loads) for International.
I was put off Torreveija by reading a few bad stories on another forum and then started to look in Mar Menor area, in which I have found LOADS of lovely Villas and houses/Apartments.
I can recommend a few websites for you below and will easily share research with you seen as we in same position.

I am also looking STILL for help on deciding on areas tho so If anyone can help me too, I would be VERY Grateful. I have seen a Villa in Santiagi De ribera???? Anyone live therE??

Hi,

I had a similar problem and then went the other way, I went further north and slightly inland to Algorfa, the village is only small but has all you need. There is a good mix of Spanish and English and everyone is very friendly.

It is in easy reach of the two main airports and the motorway and the beach is just 10 mins down the road in Guardemar.

Hi, we are moving south of Torreveija in September and have 3 children, it depends if you want your children to go to spanish state school or do you want them to go to an international/British school. 

Because my daughter is in secondary school we have opted to put the children into Mar Azul International School which is just outside Torreveija, if you do a google, their website is good and it gives the fees that they charge etc.  There is also El Limonar International School which is by Villa Martin which is a very good school I believe, but it was too expensive for us.  I don’t know anything about the Spanish State Schools, other than some of them have alot of British children, because your children are young they will find it easier to pick up the language so it might be worth putting them into a spanish school.  I decided that I wanted mine to do GCSE’s etc. so that they could go to Uni or get a job in the UK easier if they wanted to.

My husband and I are also looking at schools in this area there is a private school called mar azul international school. We have been looking into this but also have been told that there is state schools there which are free to primary children. Can anyone confirm this

I have find the comments very interesting indeed as we are also moving in this area in June. My husband and I have a son who is going to be 5 in June. Fortunatly we do own a house and know where our son will go which is a pre school in Guardamar del segura, we decided to enroll James in a spanish public school because if you have to live in a country the least you can do is embrase the culture if not what’s the point? ( I am french and have been living in London for the last 14 years so I know)

Anyway what we are doing, which I believe is a good plan (if anyone reading this think I am wrong pls let me know because like all of you I need all the help I can get!!

James and I will be flying to spain for 1 week around March/april to register for a permanent residency @ the city council (we have NIE already so should be straightforward) and then in the same week visist the school so that his name is register for sure. We will then go back to the uk untill we leave in June, between july and august we will look for some kidy things to do with the local so that when he join in September he will be ok ( He has been in a bilingual spanish nursery for the last 3 years so his spanish is good anyway - better than mine!

I think it’s necessary to do this so that he has a space garantee because I think that if I leave it to the last minute he might not.

I am also in the middle of a huge dilema also. My husband has been asked to go for an interview in northern spain - Burgos. We had set our minds on sending our 11 year old daughter to an international school , thinking he would get a job in Madrid or Valencia or other main cities. I have looked on internet and I can’t see any foriegn or international schools any where in the district. Do we risk it and send her to a spanish school???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Has anyone placed a child of this age in a spanish school and if so how did it work out. Any info or advice would be extremely welcome - my head is spinning with it all!!!!
