Hi to everyone,
I have asked this question before but unfortunatley did not get a reply so maybe someone can help now.
We are hoping to move before Xmas and just wanted to know if we can get the kids into a State school at that time of year,
I would think that it is like the UK that when you move to a new area you can get your kids into a school no matter what time of year it is.  We are looking to move to Nerja so if anyone can answer the above question it would be a great help.
One last thing what exactly do you need to register in a school ie paperwork etc as I know it seems to vary from place to place.

Hi!! My names Tiffany.  We moved to Asturias, Spain last year in the end of November.  We had no problem enrolling our daughter into the local public school during the school year.  In Asturias they asked us for a 3 passport sizes photos of our daughter, a copy of my passport, my husbands, and my daughters.  Medical records, saying that your child is up to date with all vaccinations, and then also a proof of residency.  You can use a DNI or DNE card or if you guys don’t have either one when you go to the local Ayutamiento to register with them they will give you a paper, that should be enough.  Right now I can’t think of what that paper is called, and it’s on the tip of my tounge.  We just moved to Benalmadena and this school here asked for almost the same papers.  All schools will ask you for basically the same documents.  Some might ask for a little more and some a little less, just check with the school.  Good Luck!

Hi Tiffany thanks for that.  I’m finding it really hard to know what you have to do before you leave the UK with regard to documents etc.  We are really taking the plunge and just moving over to Nerja without jobs etc but we do have enough money to live comfortably for at least a year although we will want to find work a.s.a.p obviously.  My main concern is the kids as we are doing this for their benefit aswell,  this gang culture in the UK is getting out of hand and the kids are at very impressionable ages.  Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Hi to Hannah,
You did not say how old your boys are but I do have a list of schools in Nerja if you are interested.
You may have already sorted them out but the list I have is only for state schools as I want mine to feel integrated as soon as.
I have done hours of research on the net and found some great imformative sites including this one.
How are you travelling there and do you have work to go to?
If you want to know anything I will try to help with what I have already learned.

hi
thanks for your reply,my boys are aged 7 and 3 years old so schools are obviously more important for my eldest.
We are leaning towards state school’s as we really would like him to learn Spanish and to integrate as soon as possible. My partner and my eldest son are going on a mini adventure, driving down to Portsmouth and sailing to Bilbao which will take two and a half days and then will meet my youngest son,mother-in law ,who is also going to live with us, and me at Malaga airport on the 5th December!
We have arranged seven days self catering accommodation in Nerja so we can hopefully find a long term rental to get used to life in Spain before we fully commit and buy a property.
We have been in touch with some rental agents so hopefully we will get sorted quite quickly and enjoy our first Christmas in Spain! On the job front my partner will keep his job in the UK and will be commuting every two or three weeks as air fares are so cheap, but we would like to think this is short term and will be looking to see what jobs are available!
Any information, websites on all aspects would be appreciated and how old are your children? what stage are you at?
Many regards Hannah and family.

Hi Hannah,
Have you looked at schools yet for the boys or are you just going over and then looking?
If not I will let you know the primary schools I have found also have a look at http://www.aplaceabroad.com which has a school guide on it.
Do you have your NIE numbers and if you have can you let me know how you went about it as you are obviously a bit more ahead of me cos we don’t even have a date to go yet.  Hopefully we can exchange some useful information.  I have looked at a couple of estate agents in Nerja but we need to get there first to view them so we are looking at a holiday home for a couple of weeks first which are reasonably cheap that time of year.  The problem for us is that we need a 4 bedroom house as my father will be living with us so any estate agents you know would be handy as we are quite limited, most seem to be 2 or 3 bedroom.
Hope to speak soon
Jane
