Hello

We are currently looking at this area and would appreciate info on any towns around the city that would be suitable for permanent living (not a community) but a nice spanish town with schools etc

What is Abanilla, Crevillent or Aspe like?  Any other suggestions?

OH is there at the moment and has spent the last two days driving around Murcia - coming back tomorrow evening so any info would be really appreciated!

We have spent the last 11yrs holidaying on the Mar Menor, but this is the first time we have really looked at it as a place to live - amazing how little you know when you change your perspective!

I live Near Abanilla,

There are some very nice areas where you are looking,  there are lots of new builds going up all over.

things to look out for

If you are looking in the Pinoso, LA Romana, Novelda or Hondons, be aware of the quarries for Marble and sand etc, eyesore and they could come and dig up that beautiful view without notice!!
In North Murcia, watch out for plans for ubanisations, there are a lot going thru the approval stage and the last thing you want is to be caught by the LRAU act,

There has been huge problems with rogue builders selling plots and houses without full documentation ( There is even one case near me wherein the builder completely forged the escritura and the land registry stamp)  It is essential the build is approved by the regional authority, not the local town hall or similar

An as you move inland, be also aware that the winters can be quite a lot colder than the coastal areas, so you will need adequate heating!!

Thank you so much for that Mike.  We are planning on renting long term before buying as we want to avoid a costly mistake.  And DH currently agrees with you about the necessity for heating - he is finding the nights a little chilly..lol

The stories of illegal builds etc., is a bit disconcerting.  Does your solicitor not automatically check all these things for you?  Or do you have to request all this / do it yourself.

I’m off now to google this LRAU act - thanks for the heads up!

I love that road to Santa Pola - so many lovely houses!!

I take it that broadband in the Elche area is good then?  I can survive without many things but not without decent broadband - life is too short for that..lol

Thanks Jurdy - really good of you to offer, I’m up-to-date with them all at the moment and if the writers strike doesn’t end soon I’m going to have to find another addiction so your dealers could come in handy 😊
