I am an American college student and I am looking to go back to spain for at least a year. (I studied abroad in Valencia for a semester last year). I am going to be graduating with my bachelor’s degree in May 2007. I am considering going to graduate school in Valencia and I have been researching the process over the internet. I found the requirements for foreign students to begin the pre-application process for the University of Valencia. They require several documents (mainly degree, transcript, etc). The part I’m confused about is the legalization and offical translation. This is what the form says:
The papers required in sections c) , d) and e), either originals or certified photocopies, shall be legalised by the corresponding diplomatic authorities and translated by a sworn translator. They shall be submitted at the Third Cycle Office of the University. Legalisation shall not be needed for documents issued by European Union member states.
Documents sealed with the Hague Apostille (The Hague Convention of 5 October 1961) shall not require diplomatic legalisation.
I did a little bit of research about the Hague Apostille and from what I can make out the United States is part of the Hague Convention. So does that mean I do not have to worry about the Hague Apostille because my documents are from a US university?
And for the sworn translator part, I searched the internet and some online sites say that they translate documents “offically” but can they be trusted? Does anyone from the US know of an “offical translator” that they used for documents?
The process to apply seems a little complicated right now, but I think it would be worth it in the long run. Any advice would be appreciated.
