Hi everybody I have searched the forum and acn’t find the solution to my problem.  I am a UK citizen living in Spain and at the start of Ferbruary started a teaching position in which I have to be autonomo.  I have had my first paycheque but haven’t registered as autonomo yet.  The thing is I am planning on leaving at the end of June and although it may not strictly be legal I was thinking about not bothering to register.  Is there a great risk in doing this?  If there is I hear that I have a leeway of 3 months in which to register?? Is this true and if so do i then have to pay backdated social security from when I forst started?  Thanks for your help!

To be honest I dont think the system is geared for this short term work period.

To be legal I would think that you should declare the Spanish earnings in the UK.

hi Nigel,
If you can avoid registering.. then I would do this… Mainly as registering and de-registering requires filing in a lot of forms (= queing for hours in various offices if you are not hiring a gestor/accountant to do this for you).  Probably more hassle than its worth (I was autonomo for 5yrs and it cost via my accountant everytime I registered/de registered - partly as I am not 100% fluent - but you can do it yourself if you want all the aggro!).  Probably best as Robi says.. declare the income in the UK.. (I have been told the tax man here can only chase you for 4 yrs before it is expunged.  They have to find you first 😊!
