Not quite sure what area this should be posted in.

We have two horses and are running low on alfafa (hay), the last lot we bought was not that great of quality and the horses don’t seem to like it. Does anyone know where we can get some from and roughly how much they charge per bale.

Thanks
Matt

Hi Matt,

I’m afraid I can’t help you with your feed problem, but wanted to say that I will be moving out to the Seville area with 3 horses around July, so any info you get would be appreciated by me too!!!  Where abouts are you?

Hi Izzie,
I am on the outskirts of Murcia, We have found the best thing to do, is when you arrive have a nosey round the village/town etc and find out who has horses or animals and enquire where they get there feed from. We have always found they are happy to help.

Hi,

Depending on where you are, have a look around for who is growing and then talk to the farmer. You will get it cheaper this way and can see what you are buying. Price depends on growing conditions. When I lived near Granada, 1 year I paid double the previous year for straw (paja) because of drought following by a bad winter. If you have a friendly farmer in bad years you are more likely to still be able to buy feed. If you are relying on a supplier then you may miss out.

Yeah thats what we find because we live in what you could call a farming village, so we tend to use a supplier now because they are cheaper as we buy approx 10 huge 300kg bales of alfalfa (hay) but when the dont have it we know a few of the farmers in the area and now we know a few people that keep horses and other animals so we can get it from their supplier.
