Hi All,

Just a bit of advice please….has anyone used any of these Low Cost Mobile providers? I am ashamed to say I’m not really techie enough to understand all the benefits (or indeed any risks) , I have pulled a couple out of the papers to try but would welcome anyone’s experience or advice to guide me in the right direction…

To come back to my headline, I am utterly fed up with Vodafone’s seemingly ever increasing prices, I just spent half an hour on the phone to them and got absolutely nowhere other than the very helpful girl reading out loud to me the 8 different tariff levels I already had printed out. When I said to her that perhaps an alternative provider would be cheaper (I mentioned Orange) she said yes, but you will lose your existing number! There has to be a better way surely….

Thanks in advance if anyone can help, Cheers Peter

I think you get what you pay for, the company I work for was persuaded by Orange to move to them by giving them a wonderful price, problem now is that the coverage on Orange is so bad we end up paying more as we end up leaving messages and then have to be called back. I am on Vodafone in Spain and also on my personal phone in the UK and whilst it may cost at times a bit more I can generally rely on being able to make a call and it staying up for all of the call. I do have a bone of contention with the fact that both O2 and Vodafone charging for 0800 numbers that Orange does not.

I changed to 1 of the new low cost companies (carrefour) and the coverage was terrible, so I went with Orange. The telephone service is good but don’t use them for anything else and god forbid you need anything repaired you might as well throw it away. I contracted an orange modem and i had it 3 weeks before it died. I took it back to the shop, it has now been gone nearly 2 months and they cannot tell me when I will get it back. All this time I am stuck without internet and the shop that i contracted the service from, an Orange shop is now telling me to make an official complaint against themselves which will then get passed onto the independent company they use for repairs.

I have to go now and hit something inanimate with a big stick!

Frustated Orange customer.

Where are you? Cannot do much with Orange but if VF will provide you with a data only sim and you are not too far from me I may be able to set you up with a PCMCIA data card

Hi All…
Some good news is on the horizon!
I work as an agent for a BT (yes - British Telecom - but in Spain) - BT will VERY SOON be launching thier own mobile phone
service/net work - AND AT GRATELY REDUCED PRICES TO ALL THOSE THAT ARE AROUND AT PRESENT!
You can PM me and I will give you updates.
If you can’t wait - BT do a ‘Call Through Service’ with your current provider - where you pay for just a one off connection to a number in Madrid - then the call overseas (it is not really economical for calls inside Spain) - is as cheap as a cheap landline! I.E currently 3.3 cents a minute!!!????!!!! - Yes - that cheap!

Watch this space!
