As I mentioned, we’ll be in Madrid for about 10 days to look for an apartment but if all goes well and i get my way, we’ll be moving into Chueca or thereabouts. If that fails, I may consider La Latina as well as I love the old part of Madrid as well.

Hi everybody!
It’s nice to know I’m not the only one in the process of moving to Madrid.  Today I found out that I’ve got a job in the British Consulate and I’ve only got a month to sort everything out!  Thanks to Ranpal for the useful websites.  I’m hoping it will be easy to pick up English TV as Spanish TV is terrible!!  Would be nice to meet up with you all.  My boyfriend is Spanish and as a result I only socialise with his friends (who are all Spanish).  It’ll be nice to speak English for a change 😊

Hi Ranpal, that’s so kind 😊
I’m moving from Doncaster in Yorkshire.  Got to sort out my Social Security number soon.  I’m really scared - going to miss my family and friends so much :(

Lucy, as I mentioned to RG and Wendone, my girlfriend and i are moving to Madrid. If you’re interested, we could meet up and explore the city together if you like. I’m sure Kelly will appreciate having someone to go out with when I’m not able or if you just feel like hanging out with an anglophone for a change.

cheers,
Errol.

Lucy, don’t you get to work at the consulate with diplomatic status? I can understand that you must be sad to leave, but you have LOTS to look forward to! Take care, Ranpal

Hi emilylpl,

That’s so exciting! Well there will be a lot of things to think about, everything from where to live to filing you tax return. I’m an UK national but moved here form the USA 2.5 years ago, I’ve been through all the steps of getting legal here as well importing personal items including a car! So if there is any specific help you need drop me a note and if I don’t know the answer I probably know someone that does… Perhaps we can meet up for chat when you’re here…?

Thanks!! I sent you a PM so not sure if you received it?? Not used to forums! I dont think I need advice about tax returns…I dont really plan on doing much work..if any at all!! We came over about a month ago to have a quick look round and we decided to both sell our cars here. The public transport system looks too good to even bother with a car for the immediate future. If we need one, we will just hire one. He has his course as from sunday for his promotion, and that lasts about 10 days then we can really concentrate on finding somewhere to live and get packing! Hopefully we can sort something before hand, if not, it’ll be a hotel for a few weeks before we find a home. Im really nervous about the whole thing, but excited at the same time! It’d be great to meet up in Madrid. It’ll be good for me and him to speak to, an know someone who is an English speaker! Help us settle in a bit better!! Emma x

Hi Emma, Didn’t get a PM but never mind. Sounds like you have everything under control already, where are you moving from? So drop me a note when you get here and when you have time to meet up or sooner if you need any help with anything.

Take care

His first day is june 6th so a couple of days before that we’ll have to be there. I dont feel like we have anything under control at the moment!! It just worries me about not having an actual home or even where to get one!! I quite liked Barajas but im sure theres plenty of other places. We need to live near a metro thats close to the airport. Like a few stops or something. We need a pool too and hopefully a patio of some kind. I think we have our NIE numbers….the letter was in Spanish and I dont speak a word of it so Im assuming thats what it was. We went in person to Manchester to apply, about 2 months ago. Im from Liverpool but we live in Chester at the moment. Im making myself ill with worry about this whole move, so Im off to the docs tomorrow. hopefully get some calmers or something. Its all just such a worry!! But Im sure it’ll all work out fine. xx
