Hi Gill - now is a good time to be looking for a property in Spain because it is a buyers market - the sub prime mortgage fiasco in USA has rippled around the world and made banks nervous about loaning mortgages - this has impacted on sales and with poor exchange rates - there is a lot of good legal property available.

I would advise you to be VERY careful about buying off plan - lower sales have slowed down (and in some cases stopped) building projects.

Why not look at new ready now property and see exactly what you are buying ? and then you are guaranteed your completion date.

Have a good look around and do your research - if we can help (click below) let us know,

good luck.

Thanks Rob , will have a look! What is the best costa for value for money at the moment? Can you recommend any good areas? We ideally want a place 15-30 minutes inland , with an at least 50% spanish / english mix.

What can we expect to pay for a 3 bed house ? What are your views on Murcia?
THANKS

Gill

I am taking a break from the stress of the finalday of the Football Championship league to reply….......

All markets are buyers at the moment.

Any house 15 - 30 mins inland will give you a mix of neighbours (but in some regions more Spanish)

Prices always depend on location, condition, plot size - its impossible to answer without more definite details.

Personally I prefer our region (which is why we live here) but others prefer Murcia - you wont know until you look and research.

Back to football…................

If a company offers you a free viewing trip - you can virtually guarantee
that the money they spend will be more than recuperated in the price
of the properties they sell !.

I live on the Costa Blanca just inland from Benidorm - I think it?s a beautiful
area and depsite what the press say Benidorm has something for everyone

I would have thought the major part of your decision should be based around your chicldrems schooling… check out other posts/threads linked to schools in the different areas and the languages they would be taught (things like the areas which teach Valenciano as a 1st language etc).

We came out on a viewing trip 3 months before we came out for good, but would never have bought off plan…. and thank goodness as we found a much nicer area to live in - we also live about 15 mins from Benidorm (but rarely go in, maybe one evry 6 months) as there are so many wonderful places to go without having to go into Benidorm.
Also in this housing market at the moment buying off plan is extremely risky with so many builders and construction companies going bust, so do your homework carefully…. you can get some real bargain at the moment which are resales, of fairly new houees as well as older ones.
