Hi all ..here goes… I at present live in the uk however.. I want to start a new life in Spain. I was thinking of living in or around Malaga. I have no clue where to start. My situation is different from most as I am a full time carer for my daughter who has a medical condition..so therefore I get help and carers allowance in the uk. I have been told that I will still get the same in Spain.

I will be going out there shortly for a holiday and then the next step will be to move.

What do I need to do? I have been told that the hospital care is very good..have any of you had any experince of this?

I am doing this for my daughter as I want to give her a better life. I also need some info about schools as she is five right now. Do you pay for schooling?

Also renting propieties how easy is this and what kind of period do they range from. I have heard that Teatinos is a nice area..do any of you know this place.

Sorry fr all the questions but I just want as much help and advice as possable

thanks for your time.

Oh by the name I am Lillia…30 something years fulltime mama

THANKS AGAIN

I would suggest that you make a long list of things that you and your family unit must have/need in order to feel fullfilled and compare that with what is available in the area you are looking at. Remember that in many areas the teachers cannot speak English at all and neither do the doctors.

Ask and answer a few questions from people on here and you will gain a better insight into whether it will be OK for you all.

On the list I suggest that things such as language skills, work, friends, entertainment, shopping, mixing with others etc should be included.

Hey, Flowerpop, you’ll find that school for the juniors, and attitude to small people is excellent.  Hard, though, for the little one, until they have a bit of Spanish, or as in Catelonia, Castilliano and Catalan.  Actually, my experience is with Guardarias (kindergartens) - cheap, lovely, and Secondary - a little harsh (oops!  we were in the worst one)

The younger you are, the easier it is to take on board a new language.

Once you have your Empatriomeinto (sp?) from the town hall (take with you a rental contract or house deeds and passport)  public schooling is free.
Except for the books, and stuff.

I have no compaints at all of the Spanish health service, always has been, in my experience, to the point and state of the art.  And the food is good. Wow!  Don’t expect any politically correct sympathy.

I found my latest apartment (muy bien!) in a day of trudging the rainy streets in December, buying and reading the papers, chasing the leads (no go), looking in shop windows and talking to folk.. As always, word of mouth won out, I’m the only non-spanish in this well built and tranquillo edificio.

Learn some of the lingo, if you need too.  The locals will run rings aroud you unless you try with Castilliano.  Regular Spanish. You don’t have to be any good at it, a few words’ll do, you show repect, you gain respect.  Trouble is, these guys are so nice,  they will compliment you on the most inept attempts, and not try to correct your dreadful grammer (as it always is in the beginning) so you won’t learn.. I know.  Hey, maybe you are fluent already.

My dinner’s ready!  Yay!  Hope that was of some help.

xx
