Hello, my name is Debbie and I am new to this excellent site - learnt so much already! But here goes with my query - When you register with GP here (I’ve got a job, NIE, residency etc) do they inform the UK and you end up being removed from UK system? My 17 year old son is insulin dependant diabetic (Type 1) and although we have made the move to Spain and are loving it, I don’t want to sever all ties with the UK system just yet. I would be grateful of any help and advice in this matter. Thank you, Debbie

Basically you cant have your cake and eat it to!

If you are resident and legal here you are in the Spanish national health system - when you are in the UK you are a visitor! and so you should have your EHIC (European Health Card) issued in Spain in accordance with EU regs.

Thank you Rob, I don’t expect both - I just won’t register here until I’m sure of everything. Regards Debbie
