I have just been to the town hall to apply for a Padron.
I was told my old NIE cert was no good and had to go to the Police station to register there first.
I have to pay a fee at the bank first.
Does anyone know how much and how i go about this

You need a Modelo (Form) 790 to pay either NIE or Residencia - these are given out by the Police offices - (not avaialable online because they are a multi part job) NIE was around 9 euros I think it has gone up a little now.

Do you get the new residencia(green form) straight away or is there a waiting period.

Unlike the old card as there is no fingerprints, photos or card to make - in our area it is printed out straight away there and then.

I have just returned from the police station in Fuengirola.
I was in and out in 45 mins.
No photos no finger prints just a copy of my passport and my daughters birth cert.
They even check your forms are correct

Yeah, the photos, fingerprints and long lines are for us Non-EU’ers.  We have to pay more for our NIE’s too.  And being from the US means that you have to live here in Spain for 10 years before you can apply for citizenship, compared to a mere 2 years for South Americans

All of this is because US citizens are classified as “privileged immigrants”  ?Vaya privilegio!
