I just moved from the US, and have California, Massachusetts and Brazilian driving permits, and know those aren’t valid in Spain. I’ve heard Spain has the worst driving license requirements, i.e. classes, written and wheel exam.  What if I were to take an exam in France, or Germany?  Once I get the license, I could trade it in for a Spanish one, no?

Yes, you can.  No need to change it in though. 

I actually failed the US test twice then came back to Spain and aced their driving test. 

It really isn’t that hard.  There’s a great place to study for the “teorico” online, called http://www.todotest.com.  They have the actual Spanish DMV tests given every week.  If you study the teorico on your own, you can save about 400?.  And if you already know how to drive, I would recommend you only take 2 practical driving classes.
