Hi, I wonder if anyone out there can give me any information. I Moved into a rented house about 6 weeks ago In Almeria everything was great it is the nicest house i have been in for a long time (New Build) but my problem is i had to be back in the uk, for a while and have been here for a month, but i will be back there on tuesday the 19th. I have had someone looking after my dogs and house while i have been away but unfortunately my electric has been cut off over there, and it turns out that the last person who lived there had not paid the electric bill. It is over 400 euros thats a months rent to me. The landlord has been contacted, but he has said that it has nothing to do with him as the last tennants had a contract in their name and he was not responsible for Paying this bill. He has tried to contact the last tennants and left messages etc but has had no response from them. I doubt very much that they will reply to him.
Has this ever happened to anyone else ?
I really dont want to have to pay for something that i havent recieved.
My problem is the language, and i dont know how i,m going to deal with this situation when i get there.
Any information would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I dont even know what electric company i am supposed to be with, i was only there for a week. I will see the landlord as soon as possible and i will tell him that, either i wont be paying any rent untill the electric is re-connected, or i,m leaving…....... He wont get anyone to rent that house without electric…........ so he will eventually have to have it re-connected…...........

I would say it is the landlords problem to pay the bill and arrange for re-connection - unless your rental contract has some other clause. But Iberdrola will not re-connect you until it is paid by paying the money into their bank account with references to the contract number etc.

Nope my local Company is Leandro, ( he has the biggest house in the village, and has just put in a Solar Farm with the profits from leccy bill),

on the issue of your electricity bill, the bill will eventually go as a charge against the house which will be the landlords responsibility, and the Landlord wont be able to rent the place unless there is electric, so when you hand your notice ( as you obviously dont want to live there without electric) he may then pay the bill,  My reasoning is that he is probably trying to take you for a sucker to pick up a bill he will have to pay eventually one way or another (and if he dont bend, I would suspect that he has also not registered the property as a rental(as is common), and in Spain you have to both register and pay tax on property you rent out, so offer him with denouncia of his failure to follow the law. You may suddenly become his best friend!!
