Hi - don’t know whether anyone will read this uner “Introductions” but here goes.

We have a holiday home near Gandia, had a back op inApril and now feel that I can get back to walking - albeit short walks for the time being.  We don’t want to drive as far as Alicante/Benidorm nor further than Valencia to start a walk but any recommendations would be appreciated.

We do live in a beautiful part of Spain and most of the walks I have found at the Marina Alta area.  I have got the ones from the Comunitat Valencia which are really beautifully illustrated.  I know there are tons of things to see from ancient roadways to ghost towns etc. etc. but eager to get them down on paper.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi Barnie,

I downloaded some information the other day as we are coming out in a few weeks time, a book that was recommended was Paseos Espacios Naturales
De Valencia (walks in the Valencian countryside; outings for all ages) and published by Editorial Turisnat Tel. 654 096 778 it may be the one you have
already, if not hope it helps.  Enjoy your walks as it is such a beautiful area, can’t wait to get out there ourselves.

Regards

Gina

Hi Gina,

Thanks for answering my post.  I did know about those walks thanks - I will swap info!!http://www.comunitatvalenciana.com/rutas/rutas_ing.htm.  They must cost the Valencian Comunitat a fortune in producing them and even worth framing.  The paper alone is quite something.  Unfortunately they don’t print off very well from a computer so I try to pick an original up when I am in the associated area.  I tend to see walks and put them in “favourites” and then forget about them.

Recently lots of sign posts have been going up along pathways near our village - colour coded - so must allude to particular pathways but where you get the routes from I’ m not sure.  Our local tourist info office helps sometimes with my stupid questions!!! so I will ask

Maybe there were sign posts before but old, fallen down, or we couldnt see them and now they have been replaced.  I have noticed that at the beginning of most towns (if they haven’t been vandalised already)  there are coloured plans showing you points of interest etc. which we followed in June - quite interesting.  Maybe they have been there a while but as I hadn’t been to Spain for 18 months before June I can’t say.

You didn’t say which part of Valencia you are going to?  If its in the Gandia area I can email you some walks but they are not very long but they are interesting.

Hi Barnie,

Glad I decided to look at your post deciding it was Walking and not Waking!

try these:

also plenty of books around and walking groups.

Enjoy!

Hi Rob - thanks for replying - got a new keyboard - well thats my excuse!!!

Have you seen http://parquesnaturales.gva.es/espnaturales.htm

its in Spanish but going to have a shot at translating it.

Yes, I have seen the other web site, the hard back copies are the ones that are beautifully illustrated on good quality paper - too nice to use. I haven’t had the knack yet of being able to download and print them off onto paper - the print was too small but I will fiddle until I get it right when I have more time to spend.

Bob Stansfields are a bit hard walking for me and too high - I managed to get some run off on the Top Walks web site.  Really, you can’t get lost around our area.  The bad news is that I was told there isn’t anything else they can do for my back so I will have to be careful now.

Thanks for your help on the web sites.  I had seen the Quadratonda web site before but zipped through it so will study it this morning.

Thanks again.

Anne
