Advance Passenger Information Requirements
From June 1st, 2008, API, advance passenger information, will no longer be accepted at UK departure airports. This means you must either supply the information when you book or use your airline’s website to do so at least 4 hours in advance. The Spanish government has required API for all air travellers to Spain since June 1st, 2007. The advance passenger information requirement applies to the whole of Spain, including the Canary Islands.
Advance passenger information is a security and border control measure. API essentially means your passport information, including:
* passport or travel document number
* travel document type
* given names (as they appear on the passport)
* last name
* date of birth
* nationality
* issuing state
The following may also be required:
* country of residence
* gender
Ryanair says that “any passenger who fails to provide this important information at the time of original booking or prior to arrival at the departure airport will not be allowed to check-in and will forfeit their booking without refund.”
Ryanair?s Lorna Farren made this statement: ?Ryanair regrets any inconvenience these Spanish government APIS requirements may cause, however it is the responsibility of every passenger travelling from the UK/ Ireland to Spain submit passport or National ID data at the time of original booking or at least 4 hours prior to their flights on Ryanair.com.
