I would appreciate any advice or suggestions on the following.

I have lived in Spain for many years and have driven my car using my UK licence endorsed by traffico. To my horror today I discovered that it expired a month ago when I reached 70. I really do not know which way I should go in order to get a new licence. Do I try and apply for a new one from the DVLC in Swansea or apply to traffico for a Spanish one. I have residencia.

If there is an expat out there who has had to make this decision or can help me make the right move I really would appreciate hearing from you.

i think you have to apply for a spanish one. it would be illegal for swansea to issue you one (or for you to apply for it) if you are not a UK resident.

You must apply for a Spanish driving licence when your old registered English one expires, need a health certificate and certificate of Empadron ( historical ) PLus permision of residence or certificate of residence. Lionel

The other posters are entirely correct - if you are a full time resident of Spain by law you must now apply for a Spanish licence as your UK one has expired. You can always ask a gestoria to help with the paperwork or most health check (NOT your health centre) places will also do it for you for a sum!

Also beware if you are driving you are doing so illegally and the Guardia take a very dim view of this in fact I think you could be arrested as you are driving unlicensed.
