Ok, I would like to be able to work (legally) while I’m here on a student visa.  My spanish is far from perfect and the explanation I was given while applying for my residence card was “go to this building and apply.”  I’ve discussed this with several other expats and heard it was nearly impossible to get el permiso para trabajar because I’m not an EU citizen.  I can get a written job offer describing my specific skills necessary to the business but have heard even that wouldn’t likely work.  I live in Madrid and would be working in malasa?a where there is plenty of unemployment at the moment.  Suggestions?  Thoughts?  Advice?  Any related discussion would be helpful….

Unless laws have changed recently, I’m afraid that you were given the right information: with a student visa it’s very difficult to get a work permit. And with the current economic situation, and the huge number of unemployed, I’d say it’d be almost impossible. But it is and always has been the same in USA too ... You might risk working as ‘illegal’: just keep in mind that if you’re caught, your student visa will probably be revoked.

Thanks for the info, that’s pretty much the story I’ve heard from everyone.  I’ll jog up to calle serano 57 when I have a minute and practice my exercises in futility just as a good faith attempt anyways.  At least this way I won’t be disappointed, I’ve not heard any positive thoughts on my chances whatsoever.
