transferring money to spain - taxes

Hello,

I want to transfer more than 10,000 euros to spain to spend on a wedding but i have been told that i will have to pay tax on this at the end of the tax year. but if i do smaller amounts i wont.

is this true? and how much is the tax?

i live and work in spain if that makes a difference. and money wil be transferred from outside europe

no one has transferred a big amount to spain?

Family members transferred funds from the UK to here when they sold their house and bought locally.  They didn’t incur any tax.  I also know of others who’ve transferred from outside the EU into Spain, again with no tax.

HOWEVER, best advice is talk to both your bank (at the very least to make them aware of an incoming transfer of above-normal size) and if possible talk to an accountant.  Just because one person didn’t get taxed doesn’t mean another won’t 😉
