Apologies for asking a question as my first post, have been using the site to get info about a proposed move, but do not have enough info yet to post anything useful.

Later this year my wife and I will hopefully be making the move to Spain for work purposes, and we will be having some goods moved from our current location to Spain. The moving agencies we have talked to have told us that the destination charges (port fee and delivery to our apartment/house) will be very high (about 2/3 of the total cost), and suggested that we take care of collection and delivery locally when the goods arrive.  Has anybody tried this, and if so, how did it go? If not, what would your expectations be in terms of difficulty of collecting items from the port?

We will (hopefully) be living close to Bilbao so the delivery distance from port to home should be reasonably short.
