Hi everyone,

Just joined the forum and am really looking forward to getting to know a few of you well. I have lots of questions regardng moving to Spain.

We have decided to move to Spain in about 2 years time, so we ar planning ahead in readiness. Our daughter is doing her GCSE exams and then will go on to do her A levels, but by then we expect to be over in Spain.

We have not decided which area to move to, and are planning on visiting regularly over the next 2 years to visit certain areas and to try and get employment over there. I am currently employed in a Secondary School as a learning mentor/cover supervisor/pupil manager. I hope to be employed in education services eventually over there, I am currently enrolled on a TEFL course and am just about to do the second year of my Foundation Degree in supporting learning. So hopefully I will find employment in this sector.
My husband is an operations manager and both him and myself were emplioyed in the armed forces him for 23 years me for 12 i communications. My husband is currently enrolling on a plastering course in readiness for the move so he should be able to find some type of employment.

I have a few questions, which areas have the most employment? where are the universites and how good are they? also we hope to move slightly inland in order to get a house with a little bit of land with it.

Any ideas or advice will be greatly appreciated and we have a dog who has a pet passport.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to chatting with you.

Christine

Hi Christine,

We have lived in Spain for three years, the first two were spent in Barcelona, which was fab and our two eldest girls did there schooling at an international school there and passed GCSE and A Levels.  Eldest now back in UK going to Uni there and loving it!!  However I do know that Barcelona has an excellent uni, only slight draw back would be learning Catalan aswell as Castellian.  We are know living in Granada and ALSO know that that city also has a pretty good uni and is full of students (obviously when term starts).  There must be a website that could help you more in making a decision.  We love living here by the way and would never contimplate moving back into a city (we live just outside of the city of Granada).  Not far from the beach (about 40 mins away), great for walking in the Sierra Nevada National Park and flipping lovely weather to boot.  Actually get the four seasons which I love, snow at Christmas and all that!!  Anyway, could prattle on for hours.  Sorry not been of much help, but really hope you find somewhere lovely to live, one website that could help in your search is http://www.keypropertyspain.com, we found our house with them and Gladys is lovely and speaks English and is amazingly helpful.  So good luck and hopefully chat to you soon.

Bye for now,
Alicia
