I am a Brit who is spending a fair bit of time in Spain and I want to buy a car then re-sell in six or nine months but I don’t have an address (I spend my time on my boat) in Spain.  It seems there is no problem in getting a NIE but I really don’t need one for any other purpose.

The used car dealertells me that all I really need is an empadonmiento so the car can be registered locally, but, of course, I need an address with some proof that I actually live there!  Hiring a car is absurdly expensive.

It seems to me that this must be a common requirement for visitors who are not becoming resident and maybe there is some way round it - even if only an affordable long-term rental/lease firm who would use my UK address?

Bringing my British car over is far too expensive on a regualar basis, so that is out of the question.
