Hope someone can answer my question.  We have a house here on the Costa Blanca and love spending time here.  The plan was to spend 6 months here and 6 months in the UK.  If we spend more than 6 months here does anyone know the consequences and are the authorities likely to find out anyway.

The current Spanish law states that you should apply for residencia within 3 months of taking up permanent residence - what you do is of course your decision. At the moment they do not chase you but you have consider car ownership and registration, driving license, taxes, padrons, health care and issues in the UK. If they wanted to know where you are I guess they check things like utilities consumption, phone bills, airline records etc etc.
