Hi. First time poster….occasional reader. Im a Canadian who has been hired by a company in Malaga and my work permit is currently being processed. Its a nanotechnology company which has a mandate of developing an international research team as most of their clients are outside of Spain. I have my PhD in applied chemistry which I did in San Sebastian, Spain. I lived there for over 4 years. So I am by no means new to Spain nor unfamiliar with it.
Ive just never had to get a work permit in Spain. Of course, obtaining the work permit is the responsibility of my company and they have submitted the proper documentation and paper work. As well, I have given them paper work from my side, which wasnt very much. According to them, the fact that I did my PhD in Spain and therefore Spain has ‘invested’ in me already, makes my case very simple. I would tend to agree.
Im just unsure how long this process should take. It has been processing now since about november or so if I understand the company correctly. Ive read in a couple places that a work permit in Spain can take anywhere from 2 to 6 months. Since each is a case by case basis, Im sure it all depends on the complexity of each case. Mine is fairly straightforward though…at least I would assume it is. Non EU PhD professional in an applied science field who received training in Spain. Im being naive of course, but I feel my case should be processed rather quickly 😊. However, this is Andalucia and Im guessing the phrase ‘snails pace’ can be attached to many of their beuracratic processes.
So Im just kind of waiting here to get the work permit so I can then obtain the entry visa and get started over there. My company is in the same position. They are waiting too. Im just getting impatient I guess.

Is there anyway to track the progress/status of a work permit…in Andalucia? Im guessing there isnt but I thought Id ask anyway.

Anyway, thanks for any help or feedback.
