Spains famous lay back attitude to paying tax is changing!

Many permanent residents are not paying Spanish income tax either through lack of knowledge or deliberate avoidance. However the tax advantages available on selling property for instance will only be given to residents who can provide proper Spanish tax return information. Whereas in the past it was adequate to only show a residents card to gain the advantages now tax certificates will be required.

The Brits should contact the UK Tax Office or download the FD9 forms from the web site and then visit their local Spanish tax office to register into the Spanish system.

To apply for UK income tax exemption you need to complete the
FD9 Spain Individual Form.
You can obtain it from:

UK Inland Revenue ? Centre for Non-Residents
Fitz Roy House
PO Box 46 Nottingham
England NG2 1BD

Or download a copy from http://www.hmrc.gov.uk. Search for ?FD9? to locate it and there is also lots of other useful information.
