I recently tried to register my apartment in Majorca as a holiday let (as the new law requires) and learnt that I couldn’t because the few full-time residents in the block object. The apartment block is in a holiday resort and most apartments have previously been partly used by owners & partly let out when owners weren’t using them.
Is there anything we can do about this? The value of the apartment is hugely affected by its letting potential and in effect we have simply been robbed of thousands of euros (even if we could find a buyer in the circumstances).
I have seen no publicity about this situation. Is it just in the Balearics or does it affect the rest of Spain too? Is this a new form of “land grab” from expats, as people have bought in good faith with a view to holiday letting andd now it is impossible unless your block is designated a holiday block.
