Hi everyone, My partner myself and our small menagerie are planning a move to the Jerez area, with the idea of running a small b+b, teaching a bit of English and primarily for me teaching Wado Ryu Karate (I am currently a 4th Dan and a jnr grade jujitsuka), is this realistic or am i barking mad!!?? Any thoughts or comments gratefully received.

Hi Ronin,
please see my other reply to another couple who are looking to move to Calahonda on the Costa del Sol.  I hope I have not put them off… but it can be very tough here unless you have unlimited funds, have some luck, or just sheer determination.
No you are not barking mad.  We should all follow our dreams.  With regard to your particular venture.. just see if you get any replies to your post that the B&B;idea is well tried, and well failed…. sadly… Again unless you have some luck, lots of money etc. (A good news story - think it was on Channel 4/5 somewhile back… ‘Place in the sun’??? where a couple - he an art teacher/graphics man - + wife set up a painting holidays outfit in Valencia region?  They managed to get it off the ground.. so pleasedfor them!  But she had to go back to the UK to a full time job tokeep itall going.  This is a fact of life and a common story. )

There are NO STATE BENEFITS if you do not work (unless you have had a contract job/paid into the system for at least 18 months).. so bear this in mind.

Re Jerez - I did see in the job section of http://www.thesurinenglish.com a new Brit run restaurant looking forstaff.  I tried a while back to move from the costa del sol to the Cadiz region.  At the time there was little/no work for me (I am not a plumber or electrician - who seem to do well).. so I gave up the idea.  There are a growing number of Brits in Chiclana/other areas in the Cadiz province.
I am guessing you have been on hols to the area before and have fallen in love with it.

I wish you luck - as it is economically difficult unless you have a fair wadge of money to see you through the move and setting up the business - then you have to find the clients of course.
But as I say.. don’t let this put you off.
‘One should only regret what one DID do in life’!
All the best,
sj

ps -I have lived near Mijas in Malaga for nearly 10 years and love it!
