My husband and I have just moved to Barcelona to look for work and live long term. We already have our NIE numbers but not Social Security numbers yet. I’m planning to go to the office to apply for one tomorrow.

I got a bit over zealous last week and now I have three part time opportunities that I want to take on. Two are short term English teaching positions (one is six hours and the other is eight hours per week for two to three months). The other job is a part time (+/- 20 hours per week) marketing position with a company. The company prefers that I register as autonomo so that I can fluctuate my hours based on busy or non busy periods. I will have a six month contract with them (renewable for one year after that). The teaching jobs are a bit different. One is a two month contract and the other is three months, subject to renewal.

My question is this: the language schools asked me for my social security number as they will apply to have social security deducted off my paycheck along with taxes. But if I am autonomo for the marketing job, this means I will pay my own social security. How do I avoid paying too much? I am likely going to use a gestor that the company has recommended in order to set up as autonomo, but I don’t know how to sort out the fact that two schools will be deducting social security and I will also have to deduct it from my income with the marketing job.

If anyone has advice on dealing with tax and social security deductions when working for multiple employers, I would greatly appreciate it.
