My partner and I are planning a move to Barcelona next year from the UK. We have both recently graduated with good degrees from a top university, but neither of us have teaching experience or TEFL. Furthermore, as you now have to self-fund a university education in the UK money is very tight, so paying out for a TEFL course (either here or when we arrive) might be very difficult. We think we’ll be able to save enough to cover our move, the costs of finding and apartment and all the depostis / fees included, as well as having a little to tide us over until we find work. My question, then, is whether a TEFL certificate (and related experience) is absolutely neccessary to find a job teaching English (we’d both be happy with an alternative job if available, but have read teaching English is the best option). Vaughn Systems seems to be something to consider, as they don’t require TEFL, but have read bad reports on other sites.

Thanks in advance for your help.
