Hi Everyone from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria)
I am married to a Spanish Citizen and I have just managed to get my NIE Number and the finger print etc done after paying the Euro 6.80 at the nearest Bank.I was then told to check after 45 days or so because apparently the card itself(Tarjeta de Residencia) has to come from Madrid!
I have three questions for the forum
(1) When I applied for the card I did not mention that i wish to work in Spain.Does the Tarjeta de Residencia allow me to work in Spain as well as other EU countries
(2) I desperately need to leave the country for about two months while i am waiting for the card in order to sort out an emergency back home and I believe i can fill a form to be allowed to re-enter the country. Is this a big deal and how long do they take to approve this?
(3)In future for how long can i leave the Country at a time without losing my resident status
For everyones information:
I submitted my application on 20/06/08 with whatever documents i had and they opened my file but i was waiting for a Police Report to confirm my residential address and also my marriage certificate copy from Madrid.I then submited these two documents on 8/07/08.My application was approved on 18/07/08 and i then got my fingerprints and made payment on the same day and now just waiting for the card.So the whole process from application to approval took less than one month maybe I ewas lucky. What took long was getting all the papertwork together.

I am still not sure even after reading the law whether the Tarjeta Residencia allows me to work in Spain or i need a separate work permit. As I said my wife is Spanish but I an Non-Eu family member

If your wife is Spanish I find it strange that she cannot make the appropriate legal enquiries for you - mine does for me. But trythese as well:

N.I.E. (EX14) / RESIDENCIA (EX16)

Regulations Governing EU citizens in Spain document.

HI Robi
Thank so much for the site.Yes it looks like i have the same rights as the Spanish with regard to employment being an EU family member as i understand it.
Yes my wife is very helpful but she has gone back to the country where we had been residing before in order to wind up some urgent matters and I can not leave till i get before I get the physical card in another 40 days or so.

Thanks Santi

No probs.

I`m an EU type of guy, so no idea the rules for non EU types. :coolsmirk:

You may find it useful to contact your nearest Spanish Embassy and get clarification, I love the net, but when it comes to researching facts, tend to throw up more confusion that can be handled.

I do not believe residency cards (Tarjetta de Residence) are issued any longer.
The certificate of registration document is all that you will have issued
The cards are in the distant past I’m afraid
