Hey guys,

Your post was really helpful. I’m a kiwi in Spain right now, overstaying on my 90 day tourist visa and I now have a work offer froma company here that wants to, and is eligible to, sponsor me a work visa.

Questions:

1) Is there any chance I could go through this process without having to fly back to NZ at any stage?

2) How long does the application approval process usually take? I’ve heard 3-6 months…? That seems like a long time to wait before the desired employee can start work.

3) What exactly do i need? A residency visa and a work permit? or just one or the other?

4) How do I get an NIE number in the position that i’m currently in?

Cheers

I am not sure mate. I my case, I got a residencia y trabajo visa when I enter spain. I applied the visa in Vietnam as I was working in Vietnam for several years.
This is what I can suggest in your case, you should try to go to office of the extranjero and submit your passport with your visa you use to enter spain, work contract with the company and other information of the company i.e. CIF number - pertains to tax. Make sure you bring a rep of your company that could help and explain that you will be engaged with the company.

It is 45 days only in my case.

You need a residencia y trabajo. The residencia y trabajo is valid for 1 year and you can come in and out of Spain.

4) How do I get an NIE number in the position that i’m currently in?

After 45 days you can have an NIE number, however upon aplication you will be provided with a temporary number.
