My name is Carlos Carvajal. I am making the big move in early December. With my 10 year old labrador and what I’ve kept from 35 years of life in California. I was born in Las Rosas but came to Cal when I was three. My mother and hundreds more relatives are there, all over Spain. But grouped in Sevilla, Madrid, and Granada. In Albolote’, where I plan on living I have hundreds of relatives and my grandfather is sort of a town legend.
I spent a month there in August and figured our where I want to live, which will be right outside of Granada (Albalote’) and visited some Spanish companies I hope to be representing in the American food market. We also spent 2 weeks at my mothers beach flat in Isla Cristina. It is very beautiful there. My 6 year old son started school at a bilingual academy and is staying with my mother in Granada until I get there. He is having a blast with all of the family.
I currently represent several California companies, we dry fruit. Prunes, raisins, apricots, etc. I also sell a little olive oil from my cousins factory in Dos Hermanos to clients here in the USA. For many years I taught Kenpo Karate and Jiu-Jitsu as well but I don’t think I will teach anymore once I’m in Spain.
Are there any expats working in the food business? I plan on being autonomo? Self employed that is, since I’m sure I butchered that word.. I am fairly fluent speaking Espanol but terrible at writing it.
I cannot wait to get there and have my first “baso de vino y tapa” as a Spaniard!
All The Best,
Carlos Carvajal
