This NIE story seems to be a never ending story.  The more I read about it, the less clear it gets.

As I bought a property in Soain, I need to get a NIE number.  My lawyer told me, I need to have my NIE before the signing of the Title Deed (witch takes place the second half of November).
Some people say you can get the NIE document the same day as you have applyed for it, others say it takes one or more days, ...

Who can tell me for sure how long it takes and answer my questions?

- I had planned to go to the Officina for Extranjeros in Alicante on Friday (around 7am), as I have to go to the notary for the signing of my title deed on Monday, I hoped I would have the document the same day.  Would this work out, or do I have to plan this on Thursday or even before?
- There is also spoken about a payment form 709, how does that work, where do you get that, where do you have to pay that, ...?
- Can you apply for this yourself or would it be useful to take a Spanish guy with to assist?
- After the application is done at this office, what is the next stap?  How do you know when to go back? ...?
- All information about the exact procedure and other nie-stuff is very very welcome !!!

I live in Malaga but heres how i did it here.
All NIE application are done by appiontment
Appt 23rd june,had to go to police station the day before to get a payment form to pay at the nearest bank, this HAS to be done on the day or the day before.
All appt were at 9 oclock but all had numbers mine were 20 and 21.
Got to police station at 8.45 doors opened at 9.
Iwas seen at approx 9.30 and out at 10.45,mine took slightly long as a child was involved.
I took all my papers with me all copied twice ,all i (not my child)needed was my passport.
