Hi All - (please refer to my other post ‘To stay or to go’ for extra info…)
Just to ask if anyone here knows how the Social secutiry system here works in particular to Ex-Pats.
From 2000 I worked for 6 yrs as ‘Autonomo’ and paid the monthly (high!) Eu 230. But the only cover I seem to have got was
access to the state medical cover. (They changed the system slightly in 2005? and it now includes a contribution towards
pension?).
I had a contracto ‘fijo/indefinido’ for 16 months - 2005/2006. From which both myself and my employer paid necessary contributions.
I was then made redundant in July 2006.
I received the 80% of salary unemployement benefit for 3.5 months, but after that was told I had ‘no more credits/entitlement’.
Even though I continued to be registered as a job seeker - I was told that as my credits had been used up - I was not entitled to any further financial help. So since end of 2006 I have been living on my savings.
My access to state medical care ceased one year after being registered as redundant.
I went to the ‘trabajadora social’ (social worker) at the local medical centre - who was VERY helpful - but she repeated what I had been told at INME & Social Security offices that as I was no longer paying into the system - there was no support whatsover.
I would just like to check definitively that this is true.
(One respondee on my original post thinks that even though I am not a Spanish National/born here - that I am still entitled to be treated as a Spaniard as I am a full resident/have been for sometime).
Are there specialist gestors in these matters? (I am not sure a contable who specializes in labour law would help - as I am not working - but will try anything!).
Only other option is to consider returning to UK!
(Sadly I was the victim of an RTA a year a go which has rendered me unable to work since. I did enquire at SS offices about Incapacity Benefit - but just got the same blank look again as my credits had expired totally!).
Thanks anyone if you have any positive information.
