Do bar/business owners still have to pay protection money in some areas, and if so where, or has this been stopped ?

I’ve heard of a few instances of protection rackets still operating on the Costa Del Sol, but I think the best way to find out is to go to the area you plan to setup a business and ask all the business owners (buy them a beer or two and I’m sure they’ll explain how businesses work in their respective areas).
