Hi everyone! I’m an American and have been dating my Spanish boyfriend for a while now. We’re discussing the possibility of getting engaged and have set a date in June for me to come live with him (in Spain). The one catch we have discovered is that it seems it would be impossible for me to be able to work there until we actually marry, which probably won’t be for at least three years, or until after I finish my graduate degree. It’s not the end of the world since I have accumulated a substantial savings. However, I do realize that living in Spain without the ability to work, should I need to, is very risky. So really what I’m asking is… is there some type of visa that I could obtain through my engagement to a Spaniard that would provide me with a work permit? I know that I could get a student visa while I study or residence based on my economic independence; however both of those are non-lucrative and really do me no good. Does anyone have any information that could help me? We intend to go to a lawyer but that won’t happen until I arrive to Spain in… less than three months (eek!). Thanks for your help in advance.
