I did rent a furnished apartment in Alicante. The contract is 1 year which can be extended to 5 years. Since the owner did behave in a very awful way and we did nor like to stay there anyway we left after only 9 month and did inform him that he can keep the “fianza” (2 month deposit/1800 euros). I do want to give back the key and I did call the agency, but they also do not want to have anything to do anymore with this owner… They say the owner has to come personally to inspect the flat and take the keys, but he lives on the other side of Spain and dont want to come. I am thinking about hiring a notary, making pictures of the flat and giving him the keys, since otherwise I am pretty sure the owner will make trouble once more.  Suggestions?

While looking at the flat, he did show us an empty ‘trastero”. When we moved in the trastero was full of his stuff. Warm water was not working for two month and heating not until mid of december! He also wanted me to pay his insurance for the building etc,  etc…. The result is that now he will not receive my 900 Euros monthly rent anymore and his flat will probably stay empty for a long time, since there are dozens of apartments like this for rent, and for a much cheaper price!
