I am a british subject and am currently living in Spain with a 14 month old baby and my mexican husband. I started working in October last year, I asked the seguirdad social office about child allowance and they advised me that I had to work for 1 year to receive it.

2 weeks ago I decided to go back to the social security office and ask them again because my husband was also working and I wanted to see if that made any difference. They advised me to go to the AGENCIA TRIBUTARIA office, so we went there and got the application. I completed it with only my details, my social security number, my reference on the right hand side of my residencia paper and my bank account details. I did not have to provide any additional papers. The women didnt even really look at the application and just said it would be in my bank account in about a month.

2 weeks later we had to return to the AGENCIA TRIBUTARIA office for another matter, I convinced my husband to ask about the status of our application for the child allowance and we sat down. A women checked my details on the computer and said ’ ohh we owe you the money from October when I started working.  (so 9 months and its 100eur a month). She said she could authorise to send 400 eur to my account immediately and then it would continue to go in every month automatically. And for the remainder of it I have to complete my tax return this week and then I will receive the rest. (another 500eur)
I didnt believe it first but then 4 days later I had 400EUR credit into my account.

It was so easy!!! So as soon as you are a resident and working (legally and paying your social security) you are entitied to the 100eur a month child allowance.
