Hey guys,

So here’s the situation. I’ve been in Spain for almost four months as a tourist (I’m American) That not a huge overstay, given that three months is the legal stay time. Anyway, my passport recently got washed in the laundry, rendering it…not valid haha. Anyway, after that I couldn’t find it at all. If I go to the US Embassy in Barcelona or Madrid to request a new passport saying that mine was lost, what will be the consequences? I have been living with my girlfriend and her family, and I have not been working illegally. I have not yet called the US Embassy because I wanted some more information about possible risks. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. NOTE: I am not sure if I want to go back to the States yet, given my current relationship status…so another question is if I request a new passport, will they hit me with a fine and send me back, or will the process be relatively harmless? Thanks so much in advance guys.
