Jersey is not in the EU and driving licences issued there are treated as such. We are in Spain for 5 months each year (for the last 7 years) and have not taken up residencia although we do own our own house and are on the padron. At present we have a Jersey registered car which lives in Spain and is in our garage for the other 7 months. We drive this on our licence without problem and have a green card issued for 12 months and the only “illegality” is that the car is not regularly in Jersey for insurance purposes. No MOT is required in Jersey so it doesn’t need to go back for this. There is rumour that insurance companies are tightening up on the issue of green cards for long periods and I can forsee problems ahead. My wish would be to buy a Spanish car but I seem to stumble over the driving licence. I cannot give up my Jersey licence because I need it in Jersey. As a non resident visitor, can I buy a Spanish car and drive it on my Non EU licence. Basically is there any way I can be totally legal?
