Hi all! I have an English car here in Spain but I want to go back to England sell it and buy an English vehicle in Spain and re-register it on Spanish plates! As this seems to be the cheapest option where I live.
Where I live in Orgiva the Alpujarra, there are many English cars that are not legal to drive in Spain, i.e no tax MOT etc. I want to buy a 4x4 but wondered if it needs to be legal in its country of origin to allow me to do the transfer with no problems?
There is a company here that can do it for a charge and have a friend who has done it and has explained how it is done.
Just fear that if I find a bargin but it has no tax no insurance and no MOT, they might refuse to transfer it over until it is legal in its country of origin?!!
Help please! 😝

4x4 in Spain are classed as commercial vehicles and as such cannot be replated from UK to Spanish plates, so don’t buy them.

Also a Japanese cars with UK plates cannot be re-plated as there chassis numbers are too long and don’t get accepted into the system, a friend did this a found out after the Guardia pulled him, so he went and got the lights changed etc which cost around 800 Euros, but it could not be ITV or re-plated.

So he had to scrap it as if he drove through Spain back to the UK and got pulled by Traffico they would have gone ape with fines etc.

Stay well away from UK plated cars.

Thats a bit weird as my friend has what was originally an English plated land rover defender long wheelbase, now on Spanish plates and completely legal!!! What you on about??!!
Their defender was taxed and MOT’d before they transfered it so they don’t know what happens when you don’t have it, before you ask.

These companies offer re registering solutions:

CAR RE REG COMPANIES

http://www.replatematecostablanca.com

http://www.completemotoringsolutions.es

but I have not used them. Much easier and cheaper just to buy a Spanish car.
