Here is a tricky question for somebody to answer!!

I live in Tenerife for most of the year and originally purchased a car when I lived there.
Due to health problems I have not been able to return to Tenerife for 2 years and during that time I have not paid any car tax.
It is my intention to return this year but the car tax problem still exists.
My question is: How can I go about paying my tax when I do not have any information of when and how much tax I owe?
Hope someone can respond to this query.
Cheers

It is very simple - just visit the tax collecting authority office or local town hall if they do it themselves (In Alicante (my) province all local taxes are collected by an agency - SUMA) tell them who you are and you car details and they will doubtless be delighted to look into their computer and tell you your debt. Then why not set up a direct debit and then it is taken care of in the future.

Every year you must pay a municipally imposed vehicle tax at your local town Hall. This tax “impuesto municipal sobre vehiculos de traccion mecanica” varies from municipality to municipality. As a general rule it is cheaper in rural areas, which sometimes leads Andalusian businesses with fleets of company vehicles to use a rural address for the official headquarters of their business. Small cars pay about 50 euros a year and larger ones 100 euros.

In 2001, when I last lived in Spain, I got rid of a car.  I went to the local police station to fill out a form to have the car picked up (it had no resale value).  They were delighted I did this since the norm was to simply leave your car on the street for six months until the police could permanently remove it.  I even got a pro-rated tax reimbursement.
