Hi, can anyone tell me the official Spanish interpretation for being a dependent?
My partner and I have lived in Spain for 5 years and I’m ashamed and embarrassed to say that despite 2.5 years of Spanish lessons we have never mastered the language.
That aside, after my partner fell ill last year, this illness required her to have an operation and after many visits to our expensive private doctor/consultants, we have decided to see if she/we could become part of the Spanish Health care system.
I know my partner will be covered due to her pensionable age, but I can find no information regarding dependants.
We are in the process of obtaining an S1 form from the UK, but in our telephone conversation with the people in Newcastle they could not tell me if I qualified as being dependent to my partner.
She is 67 years old and drawing both her work and state pension, I took early retirement at 49, not only to enjoy our time together in Spain, but as she has a serious arthritic condition that is progressively getting worse, I knew she would need looking after, I am now 54 years old.
As I have said we both draw meagre work pensions, and do rely on each others money for a modest life style. I mean that without my money we would struggle, and visa versa. That’s why I’m asking if anyone knows whether the Spanish deem the meaning of ?dependency? financially or in some other way.
I have tried ex pat insurance companies and because of my partners age and medical condition the quotations were ridiculously high, so being accepted as part of the Spanish health care system, would certainly help our finances.
Regards,
Mark
