Hello; I’m new to the site and this is my first post, so please bear with me if this problem has been dealt with before.
I own a property in Lanzarote which I visit frequently, but I am not a resident so have never been issued with an NIE. When I bought the property in 1982 I was given an NIF which I have made little use of over the years. Recently I have tried to register for an on-line account with Endesa. They ask me to send them a scanned copy of the card on which my NIF is recorded; I do this and (twice) they have rejected it, but don’t tell me why.
I am wondering if the problem is that the format of the NIF has changed in the 28 years since I received mine. My present NIF begins and ends with a letter, with 7 numbers in between i.e. the format is A1234567B.
Can anyone advise me if this is the case? And if so, how do I amend the NIF I have, or alternatively get a new one? Many thanks.

Firstly, Adrian; Welcome to the forum.

The format is correct (well its the same as my NIE anyway).

Trying to raise an online account with Endesa is very difficult. Many, including me have tried and given up.

It might be as well if you tried to obtain an NIE, since many things have changed.

Presumably you have tried to use the information on your printed bills?

I believe they need your name, the property address, the contract number, your NIE/NIF and the number of your last printed bill. Always seems strange that this information along with your bank details is enough for them to extract the payments from your bank but there always seems to be a problem when trying to register for an online account.

I don’t have an answer for you unfortunately, like most national institutions over here they are a law unto themselves. Maybe on your next visit you could call in to their office in Arrecife and see if they can help.

maybe some useful info here;

Hope this helps…

Hello Foxbat.
Many thanks for your welcome and your reply. No luck yet, I’m afraid, but I’m now asking for help from my usually excellent agent in Lanzarote and will certainly let you know if they come up with a solution!
Thanks again, Adrian
