Is it worth the effort to get a line in?

So, I have a place in La Cala de Mijas.  There are Telefonica boxes on the roads outside, but never has Telefonica made any contact to offer connections etc. (Having read a few posts on here I am not sure why I thought they might be so proactive but hey…)

My question is this: Is it worth the effort of even trying to get in touch to get a line connected?

You will wait a long time for Telefonica to make you an offer!

Details of available deals at http://www.movistar.es/on/ (in Spanish only).

Or, when you get here, contact them on telephone number 1004,where an English speaking person will be available to discuss whats available.

Do not be tempted to use a company called telefonicainenglish; they are sales agents for telefonica but will charge you over 100 euros for the priviledge of speaking english and once they have your money that’s it. You might get a line, you might not.

Telefonica own all of the infrastructure out here so other companies offering phone and internet services are merely renting bandwidth from T’fonica.

Companies like Jazztel will offer you the world but are generally unable to provide a service any better than T’fonica because they are using t’fonicas equipment and infrastructure.

If you want ADSL, you will pay two charges on the same bill, phone line rental and ADSL; the joint charge once you get past any offers is around 57Euros per month. As for what speed is available, it depends on the area, along the coast, 6Mbps or 10 Mbps is the norm.

Hope this helps!
