my ex boss father has alway said “There’s Always Money To be Made In A Recession” and yes i see few people doing this ...
as in innovation/creativity/technology and R&D people are doing it but not to Large-scale ...  the chinese , it low costs and cheap labour

I agree, I think with some imagination you can make money as people change their spending habits. I’ve read more than one article about how the Chinese Bazaars are raking it in, you know those shops that sell almost anything you could imagine. In Barcelona some of the busiest bars are the ones ran by the Chinese and have a nice clear ‘San Miguel 1?’ sign outside. They are a bit dingy though….

government statistics show there are now 165,000 Chinese in Spain.

However, this is more like it!!  The real deal, no “bazar” selling second-rate goods…..

“massive investment of between ?1.2bn and ?1.4bn in the Europe-China Trading Hub (ECTH) in Athlone (Ireland) and the five-stage project should be completed in 2018. Serving as a gateway for Chinese-brand companies to enter the EU, North America, the Mid-East, and African markets, the ECTH project would attract millions of traders from around the world and thousands of Chinese companies in all kinds of industries.

An Bord Plean?la has granted planning permission for the first phase of the massive ?Euro Chinese Trading Hub? at Creggan, 2km from Athlone, including three major exhibition halls and other facilities totalling 102, 348sq m (1.1m sq ft).”

Are you Irish Jur?

Well, investment in Ireland will sure bring some jobs.  But as with every country there are those who seem to have money to spend and those who don’t.  As for the Chinese, it is the wealthy Chinese who keep a company like Burberry making profit, and they have an appetite for “western” luxury goods, cars, and fashion.  Wealthy Chinese also send their daughters to posh schools in Ireland.
Nothing changes much in the world…......

Are you Irish Jur?

...a rather tall well built Southern Irishman who carries twin shillelaghs and eats accountants for breakfast?

In the meantime just to keep this going and to stir the pot a little(!)... and to bump it over a no longer relevant almost SPAM post about pet cremation urns…

An extract from;

Government wants talks with Socialists on reorganized regional model.

The Popular Party government of Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has asked the main opposition Socialist Party for dialogue on a number of measures it has introduced before any of the issues are taken to the Constitutional Court, Deputy Prime Minister Soraya S?enz de Santamar?a said Friday.

S?enz de Santamar?a was speaking after Patxi L?pez, the Socialist premier of the Basque Country, on Friday said he planned to appeal decrees issued by the PP ordering cuts of 10 billion euros of spending on education and health on the grounds that they infringe the powers invested in the region in those two areas.

The Socialist-controlled region of Andalusia, as well as Catalonia and the Canary Islands, which are not controlled by the PP, have also raised legal objectives to the decrees. Andalusia is opposed to a drastic labor reform that was approved by the PP, and is currently going through Congress.

?I ask for dialogue,? S?enz de Santamar?a told reporters after the regular Friday Cabinet meeting. ?We have to reorganize our regional system in order to make it more efficient.?

Ever the cynic I have to ask, Isn’t this the sort of thing they do in the UK with the Boundaries Commission? Shift the goalposts? Remove the rights of constitutionally approved local and regional governments to set their own programme.

The PP claim that they had no idea just how bad things had got under Zapatero and the PSOE; what a crock of sh*t. In opposition the PP had from 2004 to see the way things were going and from 2007 when the International Banking Crisis sh*t hit the fan, to do something about it. I think its called the ostrich syndrome, lets all bury our heads in the sand til this lot blows over… in the meantime we’ll build a few more totally unnecessary airports…turn Valencia into a 22nd century city of the future… build yet another Grand Prix circuit, all of these things approved of and guaranteed by the PP.

The PP are going about this completely the wrong way, you dont stimualte growth by trampling all over the workforce, strangling the Health Service, and Education. They are doing exactly the same as the Tories in the UK. These policies ultimately will kill Spain and will certainly lead to the downfall of the PP, as has been reflected in the recent council elections in the UK where the Tories and LibDems have taken a hammering.

Two party politics will never ever provide an adequate solution. It always turns out to be a p*ssing contest…

I’ll get my coat…

I don’t have much time for politicians in general, and they are all, IMO, much of a muchness.
Having said that, socialists are bad news.  “I’m a socialist until I make my first million” would seem to be their mantra.  They tend to get into power by offering handouts to various sectors of the population, in the hope that the bread and circuses approach will keep them quiet.  Human nature being what it is, that usually works.  Until bad times come, as they have.
A plague on all their houses!
