Hello all,

I actually signed up a month or so ago but have yet to introduce myself.

My name’s nathan, I’m originally from wales but have been in Madrid for the last 9 years. I have just had my first child and am enjoying many sleepless nights. I’m a freelance graphic designer and am learning to drive at the ripe old age of 33!

Look forward to perhaps being able to help a few people out in the forums and Im sure Ill have a few questions too.

Saludos a todos

nathan

Hi Nathan. Welcome to the forum. You’ve been in Madrid quite a while then… you were 24 when you arrived? That must have been quite the adventure.

Are you married to a Spaniard?

Hi,

Yes my partner is from madrid,(although we’re not married) weve been together for over 5 years now.

Coming to spain was quite an adventure, I had been living in London up until 2000 but was getting bored of the same old…I’d just been on holiday to barcelona and the North east of spain so I thought, why not?

I took 7 spanish classes, gave in my notice and bought a one way to barcelona. I arrived without knowing absolutely anybody, virtually no spanish (they mostly refused to speak to me in castellano anyway) no studies, one rucksack and my guitar and here I am 9 years later.

It has been the most positive thing I ever did. I have a career, (I studied in Spain) partner and child and live in one of the greatest countries. I have no desire whatsoever to go back to blighty. I am very happy in Spain.
Im sure as many of you know there are hundreds of Expats with similar stories of all ages who have made their lives here. If anyones thinking of making the move, I thoroughly recommend it. You have to slug it out a bit at first but its worth it!

Cheers
Nathan

ps. And yourself? Anyone else????
